One of the easiest things to do is to spot sin in our children. Jealousy, quick tempers, lying, deception, rebellion, ect, ect.
As Christian parents it is our responsibility and our duty to correct our children. Making sure they are aware that what they are saying, doing or thinking is Sin and one of the reasons why Jesus died so passionately on the Cross.
Now grab your bibles and turn to 2 Samuel 11 and see King David relaxing on his rooftop in the cool of the evening when all the other kings and men were at war. David gazed upon a woman taking a bath. The woman was appropriately named "Bathsheba". But David looked until his gaze turned to lust. David then has her brought to his chambers. When David later finds out she has conceived, he tries to deceive Bathsheba’s husband into sleeping with her. When that scheme fails David kills him to keep from being found out.
Like Father Like Sons? Now flip to 2 Samuel 13 and see King David’s grown son Lusting after his half sister Tamar. So much so that he is physically sick and can’t seem to think about, nor do anything else, but think (lust) after Tamar.
He deceives his mother into having only Tamar come to cook him something so he can feel better. When he rapes her, his older brother Absalon, later takes revenge and kills him.
My point exactly! Many times what we see in our kids is only what has first originated in us. Sin runs in the family….. What comes out of my mouth comes out of their mouth. Amazing!
When my face show’s my dissatisfaction in something they have done. They will act out their dissatisfaction when I tell them, for example, to clean their room.
When I speak unkindly about someone in front of my kids or criticize a church, they in turn will, one day soon, talk about and criticize the church they attend.
As a Pastor there’s nothing worse then a problem solver who, it turns out, is the problem. Amen?
